All-in-one or separate insurance?
An increasing number of insurance companies are offering policies which group together several different types of cover. Is this the best solution? |
Without a doubt, the insurance offered by the different companies is pretty similar, and the option of taking out an umbrella policy - which might include fire, theft, legal protection, and so on - should not be discounted.
However, we would make one reservation with regard to legal protection: if you needed to institute proceedings against the insurance company that you have your policy with, it may be preferable to take out legal protection insurance with a different group!
That said, it may seem inappropriate to take out this kind of umbrella policy when one of the risks covered does not apply to your particular circumstances. Let us illustrate this with the example of an art collector: he will certainly want to take out specific insurance to cover his works of art, from a company specialising in this area.
The same will apply if, for fire insurance, your dwelling does not fulfil the standard criteria of the umbrella policy.
