Allowances in Brussels
If you are planning on carrying out some building or restoration work, it is certainly worthwhile finding out whether you are eligible for an allowance in Brussels.

Restoration allowance
The Brussels-Capital Region offers a restoration allowance for homes built before 1945.
Eligibility condition:
- The applicant must be the owner of the property to be renovated, which must also be his or her main residence. Only exception: having a lease or management agreement with a Social Housing Agency or a Brussels-based housing association. The owner will then be classed as a "non-occupant".

The amount of the allowance varies depending on the location of the property, the income of the applicant owner's household and the type of work planned.

Façade enhancement allowance
A façade enhancement allowance can be applied for from the Brussels-Capital Region. However, several conditions must be fulfilled:
- The applicant must be the owner of the property, a tenant holding a leasehold or a trader resident in Brussels with a commercial lease that runs for a further six months, at least.
- At least two thirds of the building must be occupied by housing.
- The building must be more than 25 years old, attached and built directly on the street or set back a maximum of 8m from the building line.

The amount of the allowance is calculated based on the income of the owner(s) and the location of the property.
