Carmel - living in heritage in the heart of Bruges
In the center of Bruges, the former Carmelite monastery is being repurposed into a residential project within a protected heritage site. A living environment is emerging around the historic monastery buildings and characterful cloisters, rooted in history, architecture, and an exceptional green setting.
The site is surrounded by a park garden of approximately 5,000 m², with mature vegetation and various historical elements. This garden creates a peaceful inner area in the city, where residents can retreat without losing connection to the center.
Within the project, different entities are being developed, each respecting the existing structure and original architecture. The volumes, materials, and sightlines of the monastery remain legible and influential in the residential experience.
Today, there are still two extremely unique apartments available within the project. These exceptional residential units stand out for their location within the historical complex, their spaciousness, and their relationship with the surrounding garden and monastery architecture.
The Kapelloft, located in the former chapel, is one of these entities, translating the historical chapel structure into a contemporary living form while respecting the original character. Additionally, there is a second apartment available within the monastery complex, each with its own identity but within the same high-quality and heritage-driven whole.
