Description
As early as the 13th century, the Abbey of Averbode built a refuge house in Sint-Truiden. The current complex dates back to the 16th century and was systematically expanded into a square complex with a central courtyard.

History
The founding of the Averbode Abbey refuge dates back to the 13th century. However, virtually nothing remains of this original building.
In 1555, a new refuge house was built at the corner of Clockemstraat and Sluisberg. The oldest part is the current east wing of the complex. The north facade of this east wing was originally the front facade. The building was systematically expanded with various wings.
This eventually resulted in a square complex with a central courtyard. The south wing was constructed in 1598.
By 1794, the property had already passed into private hands and was owned by the Roberti family. Since 1864, the complex has been occupied by the Ursuline Sisters. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the sisters added the remaining buildings on
Ursulinenstraat and in Sluisberg.
The original entrance was located in the northern side wall; a wall facing the Grote Markt enclosed the property on the east side.
In 1927, a building with a turret was added here, constructed in a neo-traditional style.
